Delancey Street Restaurant

They have a good selection of appetizers, main dishes, desserts, and drinks. Food is average-good; some dishes are better then others. The plus is that this place is very inexpensive. They have a good sized outdoor seating area. During nice weather, they'll set up tables and chairs on the sidewalk so that you can have your dog with you.

Crossroads Cafe

Terrific place to have in the neighborhood. A good selection of light breakfast and lunch items, pastries, ICE CREAM, smoothies, coffee, wine, beer. There's a small bookstore with quite a good collection of books and magazines, a courtyard for sitting outside on nice days, and plenty of comfy seating indoors to read, play cards, surf the web, and chat. Sookie pulls me here in the morning so that she can get some sausage or deli meat treats from one of the employees - who LOVES dogs. Water bowls are always outside for thirsty dogs that pass by. Dogs are not allowed in the cafe or in the courtyard, but they'll set up a couple of tables and chairs on the sidewalk so that people can sit with their fur children when the weather's nice.

Town's End Restaurant & Bakery

I love Town's End. They have a great brunch on the weekends and offer fixed price, 3-course dinners, along with the regular ala carte menu. Their dishes are made with organic, local produce. They offer a good selection of vegetarian items. Their serving sizes are not too big, not too small. It always hits the spot when I eat there and the price is always right. If the weather's nice, they'll set up tables and chairs on the sidewalk so that you can eat with your four-legged, furry children.

Bayfront Park

This is a good sized park with a good amount of room for the doggies to romp around off leash. There's plenty of fresh water available via hoses and buckets set out for use. One of the watering stations also has a hose for cleaning up if your dog gets dirty. There are poop bags available in mailboxes in the park. There's a small, wooden, basic agility course located in the rear of the park - fun, but nothing special. There's also an area for the dogs to go swimming in the bay. I ended up going after some rain and the field had some muddy patches - not good for the mud-eating Sookie. Otherwise, a nice park to have in the community. Parking is along the street, which is a dead-end located near a school (?), at the entrance of the park. No traffic, so no fears of the dogs running into traffic.

San Francisco SPCA

The SFSPCA is an excellent resource for the community. I have enrolled in several dog training courses there and have had excellent experiences. The trainers are knowledgeable, the class sizes are small, the trainers give individual attention, the schedules are very convenient and the prices are right. It's always a positive experience! The SFSPCA also has a state of the art adoption center and a fairly new medical center that I have not yet seen but have heard is outstanding. It's great having the SFSPCA so close and I enjoy supporting it.

Pet Food Express

This is a good pet store. They carry a great variety of foods, treats, and toys, at decent prices.

Death Valley National Park

You'd think that this would be a terrible place to take your dog. If you wanted to do some hard core hiking, then you should probably leave your dog at home. Otherwise, most sites are very close to the visitor's lot. Your dog can either be by your side or you have to take turns walking the usual 1/4 mile to the site while someone stays behind with the dog. Overall, Death Valley isn't so bad if it's primarily a sight-seeing road trip. Dogs are allowed in the parking lots, roadsides and in most, if not all, campgrounds as long as they are on a 6 ft leash at all times. Well worth the trip as this park is stunningly beautiful.

South Beach Cafe

When we need a quick bite and Sookie's with us - this is where we go. Good personal-sized pizzas. They also serve sandwiches, breakfast, and desserts. Wed night are fondue nights. There's always plenty of outdoor seating and the service is good. We love this place.

Doodie Calls Professional Pet Care Services

This is a terrific "ultimate playgroup" and boarding service provided by owner, Rachel Higgs, and her staff. Rachel picks up Sookie up everyday around lunchtime for a 1-2 hour outing with her neighborhood doggie friends. They go to local parks and Fort Funston. Rachel offers advice, helps with training, and also provides private boarding. We could not have found a better, more trustworthy service. Sookie loves Rachel (and Susie too)!

Alessandro DeSogos Photography

Amazing photos of doggies. We has Alessandro take some photos of Sookie when Furry Tails was running a promo for him. He did an excellent job and we now have some very unique, hight quality outdoor photos of our Sook.

Panamint Springs Resort

A small, dumpy, place with small, basic rooms, but it's clean, cheap and allows dogs! Sookie joined us for dinner and breakfast at the motel's restaurant. A dog friendly camp ground is across the street - it was very windy when we visited so we decided to get a room instead of camp. There're only 3 motels to stay in inside of Death Valley, and 2 of them are dog friendly. Not bad if camping is your only other option.

Point Isabel Dog Park

Love, love, love this dog park. Our favorite place to go for weekend breakfast sandwiches and coffee at the Sit and Stay Cafe and a nice, long walk. Sookie loves to sniff the ENTIRE 21 acres of this fenced-in dog park. There are lots of gopher holes. There are also a few places to wade in the water. I recommend going when the tides in, otherwise you're dog will wade into 12 inches of Bay mud. Not to worry if this happens, as there's a Mudpuppies self-service dog bath next to the cafe. Plenty of water for the doggies too.

Mission Creek Dog Park

This is a fenced-in gravel park - it's easy for the park management to keep clean, but your dog will get dirty with gravel dust. Not much to this place, other than a clump of bushes for a good game of chase and a nice water fountain. Parking can be difficult especially during baseball season. Do not park in front as you'll get a hefty parking ticket.

10/18 1:50pm

South Beach Park

This park used to be a good place to take our dog for playing with the other neighborhood doggies. Whoever is responsible for this park changed the landscaping company - this company overwaters and changed the fertilizer to these little, yellow pellets that dogs love to eat. As a result, this park is now a boggy, muddy, torn up mess. In the winter, people tend not to pick up after their dog as they'd prefer to keep their feet dry. We've been avoiding this place for months.

10/18 1:47pm

Crissy Field

This is Sookie's #1 beach spot and our second favorite dog park. Number 1 is Point Isabel, but the beach and swimming here is much better. This beach is constantly changing shape - there's always a shallow "river" flowing through from Crissy Marsh where smaller dogs and beginner swimmers can romp around. There are always lots of dogs to play with and plenty of room for running around. Sometimes you'll see sea lions and pelicans fishing right off the beach.

10/18 1:44pm

Fort Funston

This is a great place to go for hiking along the coast, however we prefer other beaches to the one at Fort Funston. The sand here is dark and dirty and we always come across dead birds and seals. Sookie smells pretty bad after a romp here. It's also foggy and cold on most days. Doggie heaven, but not so great if you don;t want to drive home with all of the windows down.

10/18 1:41pm

The Creamery

I love this place! They make their ice coffee in a special way - no other ice coffee in the city even comes close in flavor. Very cool looking building. Sookie came right in with me to place my order and there's plenty of room to enjoy your yummy coffee and food outside.

10/18 1:39pm

Furry Tales

This is a good little store with a good selection of high quality foods, treats and dog spa products. Accessories are catered to smaller dogs. We took our dog here for grooming and nail trimming - they did a great job.

10/18 1:31pm

Pawtrero Hill Bathhouse and Feed Company

The original store. Love this place and the sister store, Southpaw.

10/18 1:30pm

South Paw Bathhouse & Feed Co.

If Sookie escaped from our condo, we'd probably find her at South Paw. She loves this place and the uber friendly and helpful owners. If they don't have something you want, they'll gladly get it for you, as long as it meets their strict and discriminating standards. They only stock the store with organic, natural foods and treats. There's a huge selection of treats, toys, bath products. and accessories not only for dogs, but cats too. There's also a self-service dog bath area. The owners also organize yappy hours, holiday events and photo shoots. You can also visit the original store, Pawtrero Hill, located in Portero Hill.

La Quinta Inns and Suites

We stayed at this La Quinta on our way to Sequoia NP from Death Valley NP. It was very clean, new, inexpensive, no fee for our dog, and a free expanded continental breakfast. The hallways to the rooms are outdoors, so getting in and out for potty breaks wasn't disruptive to anyone. We also stayed at a La Quinta in Fresno and had the same pleasant experience. Highly recommended in lieu of camping on road trips.

Cody Kelly Bark Park

After a long time on the road, this fenced-in dog park was a blessing to our dog! It's situated within a larger public park, across the street from a new, comfy, dog-friendly Holiday Inn. It's also right off of 198, just east of Highway 99. We stayed at the Holiday Inn and used this location as a starting point for visits to Sequoia and Kings Canyon NP, which are approximately 45 minutes away by car. There aren't any poop bags, but the locals use pooper scoopers and poop bins and keep the park very clean. Sookie loved this park. An added bonus - there's a pond across the street full of ducks, geese, herons, and cranes. There is also a separate fenced in area for smaller dogs.
