Roy M Butcher Dog Park

This is a great park with artificial grass and lots of shade. Park has both large dog and small dog sections. Small dogs, as defined by the sign at the gate, are 40lbs or under. Also lots of seating and toys available.

Muirwood Community Park

Might be a good place for those wanting to give their dogs a little off leash time without the risk of mud post rain or the dreaded mushrooms. The bark ground covering is well mixed with oak leaves from nearby trees making it a nice soft layer to fall on.

The park however, is on the back end of the park right up along the sound barrier of I-680. Freeway noise is immenient because of this. Bits of trash also litter the dog run area probably blown in from the freeway.

It is not a big park. The all size area is long enough for a good sprint and back. The smaller area is however, too small to be a good run.

Seating is available in both sections. Muirwood park, itself, has lots if good seating.

Murphy's Paw

Five bones for this place. The staff is wonderfully helpful. If by chance the do not have the item you want, the can look into irdering it and are actually great at following up with you when it cones in.

It's a bit of a smaller store but there is a lot in here. They also close late in Fridays so a good Griday night out in town can always include a trip here.

Dougherty Hills Dog Park

The park sits right next to a couple of trail heads so it's very convenient to take the dog on a hike after or before the dog park. There are separate sections for large and small dog areas and water fountains in each.

The small dog area is on a grassy slope making it sometimes harder to see your dog. The large dog area is a mix of grass and sandl. Beware of stepping into doggy poo at the further end of the large dog section. It seems owners either did not see their dogs go on business or else they were too lazy to walk to the end of the park.

Bray Commons Park

This park is well maintained both by the city as well as the people who use it. It is a fenced park for dogs under 20lbs as per the sign says but slightly larger dogs who place nice are tolerated.

Dougherty hills park is a bit further away for me and has less dense grass resulting in a harder surface. Bray Commons' actually larger than The small dog area in Dougerty Hills park. I prefer Bray Commons for these reasons plus the people are quite friendly.

This park is wonderful for small dogs. It would be nice if there could be more lighting so dogs can still play after dark.

BART - Bay Area Rapid Transit

I haven't actually taken my dog onto BART but had done some research on their pet policy and called their office to validate what they had listed on their website.

BART does allow pets but must be contained in a container. Only service animals are excluded from this rule. As per conversation with the lady on the phone, the crate rules stands firm even if you have a 200lb dog. Muzzles are unacceptable alternative to the crate.

It's great that there is a way to bring the dog into the city without have to drive but to have to lug a dog crate in the city makes this inattracrive way the get to the city. MUNI only requires the dog to be muzzled. It would be great if BART uses this rule too.
