If you park at the lots near the zoo, it's a little weird getting down the cliff/dune. just slide down. & then there are at least 4 or so miles of beach, all the way south to San Mateo Cty. check the tides before you go. Winter sleeper waves have soaked unaware walkers.

My dog loves coming here even though she hates the water. We've met lots of other friendly dogs and owners. Haven't had any problems yet. Just watch out for the occasional jelly fish that washes ashore.

Great beach with plenty of room for dogs to run. If your dog likes to swim like mine does, be careful, the currents can be unpredictable. Stay north of the Plover protection area or you may be cited by a ranger.

Great beach with lots of room to play. Be careful not to accidentally head into the "no dog zone" because they will come get ya... Can get a little windy so be sure to layer!

My favorite thing to do here is walk from the windmill to the cliffhouse, and back. Then have brunch at the beach chalet.
If you have small dog, there is a small dog group that walks the beach on saturday's from 10 to 11. Meet on the beach infront of the beach chalet.

We visited Ocean Beach on a hot sunny San Francisco afternoon. The beach was full of families enjoying the day. Although, this beach is the biggest in San Francisco it didn't seem to have enough room for the dogs and families. I'm sure it is great on the normal foggy SF days but I'd head to a different dog beach on a sunny day.
After the beach we headed over to Park Chalet which was a great place to grab a beer with your dog and enjoy some live music.
