This place would get five stars if the terrain was a little more forgiving. The rocks can be large and irritating to some dogs and there isn't an area of grass for dogs to run/sprint. Otherwise, the park is great- spectacular views and lots of room for dogs to roam around sniff.

You honestly can't top anything as beautiful as Bernal Heights. When it's a warm, sunny day in San Francisco ... this is the place I want to be at with my dog. When you get to the very top, you can see the entire city of San Francisco along w/ the beautiful downtown skyline. It's seriously breathtaking.
Tons of friendly off-leash dogs.. and the one thing I love most about Bernal Hill is that it tires Brady out like crazy!
Most dog owners that come here are very friendly as well .. but beware of the few that doesn't even want to make eye contact or talk! I actually witnessed a pretty bad incident here. Involving 2 dog owners. Don't know the entire story, but one dog was playing rough w/ the puppy and before you know it, some guy freaked out and hit the other persons dog. I mean, of course I'm not going to decrease a star off Bernal Heights Dog Park b/c of that .. since it can happen anywhere .. but wow!
ANYWAY! I love Bernal Heights :)

I love this park. Amazing views, spacious, big hills to help wear out the pups, and a dog-friendly bar nearby. There aren't really any flat grassy spots, and the rocky surfaces can irritate some dog's paws, but other than that this spot is awesome. Great place to bring the dog on a sunny day for a perfect picnic.

As long as your pooch doesn't need a fenced in area, there is no better off-leash park in the city. Bernal is big and hilly--grassy in the winter and spring, dry the rest of the year. There are lots of walking/hiking paths up and down around the hill. The park is a favorite with dog walkers, so there are almost always dogs around. After a rain, the ground tends to dry very quickly, so the park is rarely muddy, as so many others are.

Go for the dog, stay for the views. Lots of dogs, pretty cool people, running water, and you can leave the leash at home. Took off one bone since there is no dedicated fenced dog area.
The loop around the top is approx. 1 mile. Fun jogging/hiking trails too.

This is a great spot to take your pup out. Captain loved running on the steep grassy hills and checking out the amazing views of the city. The park has some flat rocky areas where the dogs can run around and a doggie water fountain when it is time to cool off. After a day at the park check out some of the great doggie friendly places on Cortland Ave the ever tasty including Progressive Grounds.
