You'd think that this would be a terrible place to take your dog. If you wanted to do some hard core hiking, then you should probably leave your dog at home. Otherwise, most sites are very close to the visitor's lot. Your dog can either be by your side or you have to take turns walking the usual 1/4 mile to the site while someone stays behind with the dog. Overall, Death Valley isn't so bad if it's primarily a sight-seeing road trip. Dogs are allowed in the parking lots, roadsides and in most, if not all, campgrounds as long as they are on a 6 ft leash at all times. Well worth the trip as this park is stunningly beautiful.
