Look for the "no bikes" trail... This is where u can take dogs off leash...LOVED this place! So beautiful, hard to beleive ur still in oakland! My small digs love trail hiking , so this place is perfect. We came home w 2 ticks...so watch out for that.

Great hiking trail with good views and nice wide paths that make it very easy for the dog! It gets a little steep at parts and when we went it was a little muddy, but it was tons of fun, I definitely recommend it.
There aren't any poop bags or water, so come prepared. There are also signs for mountain lions etc so something to be aware of.

Just got back from spending a day hiking a Redwood Regional Park. The park is large and has many different trails. We ended up on the MacDonald Trail which heads into Chabot Regional Park. The trail rises about 1000 feet so you get a decent workout but none of the hills were too long or steep.
The park seems to get a lot of horseback riders and mountain bikers so you might want to pick one of the smaller trails. Also, the car next to us was broken into and there are a lot of signs warning you to keep valuables out of sight.
Overall this is a great park and we will be back to try some of the other trails.

We absolutely LOVE this trail. When you arrive in the parking lot you have the option of going right or left:
Right:
- dead-ends I believe about 2 miles out, I'm not totally sure about the distance, at the parking lot for the Chabot Space and Science center.
- If you cross the parking lot the trail continues downhill. I've never continued on so I don't know where/how far that goes.
- Mostly in the shade.
- Narrower trail so harder when mountain bikers pass.
Left out of the parking lot:
- Gorgeous trail, wider easier for mountain bikers to pass.
- Runs along the Countra Costa border and I believe you technically will end up in CC county if you go far enough.
- I've been told this trail loops around and will take you back to the parking lot but I've gone 3 miles out without it looping so no idea how long it is.
- Mostly in the sun- drier if it's rained.
-- During the summer, if your dog stays on the trail, you shouldn't have to worry about foxtails between their toes.

Many miles of trails from easy/casual to fairly strenuouss. Stay off the wider trails to avoid mountain bikes.
